How to Choose a Rock Wool Manufacturer: 7 Questions to Ask Before You Buy
Rock wool is a commodity — but the quality difference between manufacturers is not. Density variation, binder quality, dimensional tolerance, and test data all affect how the board performs on site and whether it passes your project inspection. Here are the seven questions we recommend asking any rock wool manufacturer before placing an order.
1. What Is Your Annual Production Capacity?
Capacity tells you whether the manufacturer can actually fulfil your order — and whether they are a real factory or a trading company. A manufacturer with large, multi-site capacity can hold stable pricing and deliver consistent quality across repeat orders. Taishi Rock Wool operates seven production bases with combined capacity of 800,000 tonnes per year.
2. Which Standards Do You Test Against?
Chinese manufacturers commonly test to GB/T 25975-2018 for exterior wall rock wool board. If your market requires EN 13162 (Europe), ASTM C612 (North America), or other regional standards, ask whether the factory can supply test reports to those standards. The answer determines whether your import will pass customs and building inspection.
3. Can You Customize Density, Size and Thickness?
Projects rarely match a standard specification exactly. Ask about the range of customization: density (e.g. 50–120 kg/m³ in the exterior wall range), board size (standard 1200×600 mm), thickness (30–200 mm), and facings such as aluminium foil or mesh. A real manufacturer with in-house cutting lines can adjust these without long lead times.
4. What Is Your MOQ and Lead Time?
Minimum order quantities vary widely. For container orders, ask about production lead time after deposit, and whether the factory can handle urgent partial shipments. Also confirm how many tonnes fit in a 20’ or 40’ container at your specified density — this affects your landed cost per square metre.
5. Do You Provide Free Samples and Test Reports?
Reputable manufacturers send free samples with the physical test report for the batch. Check the sample against your requirements: fire rating, thermal conductivity (≤0.040 W/m·K), water repellency, and dimensional tolerance. If a supplier hesitates to share test data, treat that as a red flag.
6. How Do You Handle Export Documentation?
Rock wool shipments need correct customs classification, packing lists, and in some cases country-specific certifications. Confirm who prepares the documentation and whether the factory has experience exporting to your region. Taishi exports through Geyuan Insulation (Shandong) Co., Ltd., which handles full export documentation for container and LCL shipments worldwide.
7. What Fire Rating and Thermal Data Can You Prove?
For most building applications, A1 non-combustible rock wool is non-negotiable. Ask for the batch test report showing the A1 classification and thermal conductivity values. If the project is fire-rated, also ask about the maximum service temperature and reaction-to-fire behaviour under EN 13501-1 or the equivalent local standard.

Buyer questions we get most
What should I ask a Chinese rock wool manufacturer before ordering?
Annual capacity and where it is produced, the standard the product is tested to (we work to GB/T 25975-2018), the form of the test reports, cubic metres per container, and who signs the shipping documents.
How do I verify a capacity claim?
Ask for the certificate scope and production-line evidence rather than a brochure figure. Taishi runs 800,000 t/year across seven production bases in Shandong.
Can I get samples before placing a container order?
Yes. Samples can be shipped ahead of the order so your team can check density, thickness and facing before committing.
